Detailed local guides / research & coverage

What’s in the guide.
What still needs checking.

216 pubs, inns, taprooms and public bars across 20 areas.

Growing through local guides.

The nationwide directory covers England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Read its separate sources and coverage notes. This page describes our individually researched local guides in Devon and Cornwall. The South Hams edition has a broader area-by-area audit; the newer local chapters are researched selections, not complete county directories.

Every pub has named sources and its own online research date. Original South Hams sources were checked on 1 November 2026; the first expansion was researched on 6 November 2026. We have not personally visited or reviewed the venues for this guide. Source records can lag behind changes, so check current opening hours and events directly.

The detailed guides’ scope.

Public pubs, inns, brewery taprooms and established bars that welcome drinkers can be included. A pub does not need a standalone website, a kitchen or real ale to qualify. Members-only clubs and primarily café or restaurant businesses without a clear public bar offer are outside the current scope.

There is no fixed limit on entries, no paid ranking and no requirement to serve real ale. The nationwide public-data directory uses a broader source category and may include clubs or nightlife venues, with a prompt to confirm admission.

South Hams audit: closures and other candidates.

The following records come from the South Hams coverage audit checked on 1 November 2026. “Needs confirmation” means the available evidence is incomplete or conflicts. A closure report is dated source information, not a permanent judgment.

Notes marked “Outside South Hams” describe the original district boundary. They do not restrict the expanding guide; venues beyond that boundary can now appear in the wider Devon chapters.

Keeping the guide useful.

Future updates should recheck venue status, add missing public bars and replace older source information with direct confirmation. A source check is recorded separately from any future personal visit. If a venue changes its name, the earlier name should remain searchable.
